This was the first book by Chris D’lacey in ‘The Last Dragon Chronicles’. This wonderful book has the right ratio of reality to fiction. I had a go at writing blurb for it. I hope you enjoy!
The Fire Within!
“I’m under strict instructions to write a happy ending. Rule number ninety-seven: You’re not allowed to make a dragon cry.”
“Right,” Said Sophie, starting the engine. “Tears might quench their fire.”
When David Rain moves in Elizabeth Pennykettle – and her 10 year old daughter- in Wayward Crescent his moving-in present is a green, clay dragon with a notebook and pen, Gazdooks . Soon, he befriends Lucy (Elizabeth’s daughter) and learns all about Conker, Lucy’s ‘pet’ squirrel, and helps save him.
Lucy won’t stop pestering David for a bed time story- so with Lucy’s 11th birthday coming up David decides to make her wish come true. He starts writing a story based on Conker, by the time her birthday comes around David had only written the first few chapters. While David continues the story, things soon take a dark turn. Whatever David writes about Conker and his friends start happening. He finds out about what happened to Conker’s eye , and tries to incorporate the bird that harmed him in the book. However, when he goes outside he soon realises that Caracatus- the bird – is attempting to get Snigger and Conker.
Will Conker and Snigger outwit Caracatus?
